First of all we need to understand Netflix overall goals and their audience. It targets wide audience and provides content for everyone. It can't craft content structure, functionality, UI and other aspects of the product for a narrow group of users. This is the point from which StreamFlix main advantage is coming. StreamFlix should craft each aspect of the product for indie content, it includes:

  • exclusive indie content which can't be shown on Netflix due to the copy rights or other restrictions (e.g. age)
  • supporting materials - indie content can go with a story of its creation, authors' biography, other related media materials
  • exclusive UI - indie content can have some specific aspects, for instance rewards or categories. These things can be shown as badges, applied like filters or affect the navigation
  • social aspect - social features can significantly increase engagement create great value for users
  • technical features - some content may be presented in a different aspect ratio or need some graphic adjustments on user side, which can be done through build in controls, the same about audio - EQ, Presets, etc As a summary - niche narrowing provides a lot of opportunities comparing to wide solutions.
